Welcome Back Hello BaPP

I attended the Welcome Back Skype at 3pm today. I am sure most of you will agree, new students and those returning from the summer holidays, that it is a great way of kickstarting that academic brain and speech. The call clarified information and refreshed my memory about navigating around UniHub. Adesola structured the call with 3 pillars.

1. UniHub

Where all the information is. Your clay to your mould

2. Community

Networking through blog posts, the student Facebook group called BA PP Community, and the Skype discussion groups that can be found on the BAPP schedule for dates and times.

3. Supervisor

Each student is designated a supervisor. This will be either Adesola or Helen. They are your go-to person for quick queries on Skype or email. The person you send your drafts to. Your main source of contact.

A book that really captures the essence of the whole course is:

Knowing Knowledge by George Siemens (2006)

This can be found on the reading lists. I glanced over this book in module 1, but wish to recap on this piece of literature going into module 3.

Do not be afraid to attend Skypes that are not labelled with the module you are on. You can learn so much from someone who is one module ahead of you. I found it very useful when I was in module 1, and students from module 3 attended, passing down their wisdom. I will try to do this for those in module 1 and 2 now.

A key point that Adesola made was about their approach towards us, the students. Adesola and Helen want us to extend our thinking skills, move us forward through self-reflection, steer us in a direction without being spoon-fed at every difficult path. They are there to support, help and inspire but not to tell us how it is. Otherwise, we will never reach our full potential as practitioners. For example, if I hand in a good piece of work or discuss a good idea and Adesola just says 'great'. What does this achieve? Not much! Instead, Adesola might say ' Have you thought about this perspective?' Much more interesting, providing space for self-development.

Finally, just so you all know... the official deadline is DECEMBER 11TH 2020.

I hope this is useful to those that couldn't attend any of the welcome back Skypes!

  1. I enjoyed being in the welcome back skype as well! It was helpful to hear Adesola's advise that "Knowing Knowledge" is a good overview of the point of our course! Definitely something to consider!

    1. Hi Clare. So to alter the appearance of your blog, go onto your google account. Where the icons of google apps are (drive, email, etc) click on the blogger icon. That will take you to the blogger place where you can change settings and view comments. On the left-hand side are:
      Theme
      Layout
      Settings

Play around with these three icons. You can choose any format, change the colours, pictures, font style, how many pages you want, the gadgets on the left-side of your blog....

  7. Hi Serina, Knowing Knowledge is a great boo to read and really helped me with the whole idea of this course and the way I approach my thinking. Also, having constructive feedback is so useful as it gives you avenues you may have otherwise missed. :)
