Skype Discussion - Wednesday 5th February 2020

This BAPP group discussion on Skype was led by Adesola, and for all module students. We were Module 2 and 3 students. The focus at the start was on Module 2, discussing what we want to inquire without our field of practice. How do we carry out our research? How do we go about planning our inquiry?

The key points were as follows:

1. Research about research.

2. Module 2 is a continuation of Module 1.

3. Your question is clearest at the end of Module 3.

We are not trying to prove a point or solve a problem, carrying out quantitive research is not the right method. Qualitative research, involving valued reasoning and different perspective of opinions, is a good approach to research in Module 2. Research about research can mean several things. It can mean researching other theorists' research. It can also mean researching how to utilise different research methods.

Module 1 is connected to Module 2, a thread that keeps gliding through each journey of the course.

The project/inquiry you are going to carry out in Module 3 is PLANNED in Module 2. Do not plan the plan. Part of our time will be breaking it down, questioning aspects we would not usually, using library resources to gather literature. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE PROCESS.

I will be mapping my practice onto paper, to get a clearer idea of what themes I want to research on, reflecting on what I learnt in Module 1 to help with this process. For now, researching topics that interest me and are relevant to my practice.

  1. Hey Serina! It was very interesting to hear about where you are at this morning on the Skype call. Researching into the different properties of Qualitative Research is a big part of module 2 as it brings up ethical questions as well as 'justification' points. While it is tempting to only mention the positive points of Qualification Research, it is also important to mention the short-falls. I found this Ted Talk to be very informative. I hope it helps you in some way!
